Daniel Suarez completed a sweep of Saturday’s two Cup practice sessions by posting the highest speed in final practice for the Coca-Cola 600.
Suarez recorded a speed of 180.704 mph around Charlotte Motor Speedway. He made 51 laps within the session.
“I will say one among the simplest (cars of his Cup career) needless to say,” Suarez said. “I desire this year I’ve had some good race cars with a chance to end within the top five and top 10, but I desire this car has been pretty solid. It’s fast and it’s not comfortable to drive one hundred pc, but I don’t desire anyone out there’s comfortable immediately, so it’s been sunny and hot and slick which makes things a touch bit harder, but overall my team has been doing a really good job with Stewart-Haas Racing and Ford Performance. we have an honest piece and hopefully, we will cash in of it tomorrow.”
The top five was completed by Daniel Hemric (180.686 mph), Denny Hamlin (180.553), Ryan Preece (180.469) and Kyle Busch (180.276).
“I felt pretty good with our practice there,” said Hamlin, who will start 20th Sunday. “It was one of our better practices of the year. We’re getting to need to start from deep within the field, which goes to be a challenge with traffic, but we’ve got an extended race to urge it done. Pretty proud of where we’re at.”
Busch has the simplest 10-lap average at 179.485 mph
NASCAR is poised to be the primary major U.S. sport to return following coronavirus stay-at-home orders. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced Tuesday that the Coca-Cola 600, scheduled to require place on Memorial Day, will happen without fans unless there’s a serious downturn within the state’s health conditions.
The race would happen at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 25 without fans attending. The announcement comes following a study by the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IMHE) which showed that aggressive social distancing measures and stay-at-home orders in North Carolina will make the state safe to start returning to normalcy as soon as May 11, one among the primary states to securely begin relaxing protocols.
Cooper will allow the race to travel ahead as scheduled unless there’s a drastic change within the status of Covid-19 spread within the state. North Carolina currently has 9,674 confirmed cases of coronavirus, and while the state has yet to pass its peak, health officials believe it’ll be safe to start relaxing social distancing measures following Cooper’s stay-at-home order, which was extended to May 8 earlier in the week.
